13th Room History
The 13th Room, built in 1940 as part of The Row, owes its existence to Barbara Blake, an Englishwoman who, captivated by the Inn’s canyon setting and Pacific views, generously contributed to its construction. Originally, the room served as an antique shop, showcasing Helen Deetjen’s ever-growing collection of unique items. Over the years, the shop expanded into adjacent spaces to accommodate Helen’s passion for antiques. Following her passing in 1962, the rooms were cleared of their treasures and repurposed as guest rooms. Today, the 13th Room reflects both the Inn’s history and the charm of a bygone era.
