Dining at Deetjen’s
Our restaurant consists of four intimate rooms. Guests enjoy good food and wine in a warm, informal atmosphere with fireplaces, candlelight and classical music.
Breakfast
Served daily from 8 a.m. until noon. Reservations are required for a party of six or more.
Dinner
Served Friday-Tuesday beginning at 5:30 p.m. Our menu includes a variety of vegetarian, fish and meat entrees along with daily specials. Beer and wine are served in the restaurant, and our wine list features carefully selected wines from California and Monterey County. Reservations required for a party of six or more and otherwise recommended.

A Brief History of Deetjen’s Restaurant
The restaurant at Deetjen's has a long and colorful history. In 1939 Barbara Blake, a recently widowed Englishwoman, came to Deetjen's and was captivated by the natural beauty and spiritual quality of Big Sur. She knew how to operate country inns and had funds to invest in the depth of the Depression.
Mrs. Blake leased the barn and added a wing to the south (now the Fireplace and Family Rooms). She created the traditional English décor of the Restaurant, including adding the beautiful old redwood bar from a nearby ranch. Little has changed to alter the quiet ambience of the place she established over seventy years ago.
Today, you can enjoy home cooking for dinner five days each week (closed Wednesday and Thursday for dinner) in one of our four romantic candlelit rooms. Our dinner menu includes simple, hearty cuisine prepared with homestyle sensibility. Deetjens’ cellar offers carefully-selected wine and beer to complement our guests’ dining pleasure.
Deetjen’s Restaurant serves breakfast every day of the week. Our Eggs Benedict, fluffy buttermilk pancakes, and breakfast burrito have earned the Restaurant the "Best Place for Breakfast" award in Monterey County!
