Chalet History
The Chalet Room, built as the upper floor of the Champagne building, was completed in 1941 as part of The Row, during the expansion initiated by Barbara Blake to accommodate the growing number of travelers drawn to Big Sur by the newly completed Highway 1. Perched high above the creek winding through the canyon, the Chalet Room offers guests a sense of seclusion and a unique connection to the surrounding redwood forest, creating the feeling of being nestled among the treetops. This charming room captures the rustic elegance and timeless tranquility that define Deetjen’s Big Sur Inn, providing a perfect retreat for those seeking solace in nature’s embrace.
