Creek House History
The Creek House was built by Helmuth just after WWII. The Carmel-San Simeon Highway was periodically closed to civilian traffic during WWII. The bridge over Castro Creek, leading to the Creek House, was constructed during the war and was built strong enough to support a military tank. Also built for employee housing, the two-story Creek House later became the perfect building for families to stay. In the winter of 2016-2017, the Creek House was destroyed by a mudslide. It was rebuilt by local contractors, maintaining the integrity of Deetjen’s original building style and design.
