Faraway History

The Faraway room, in the Stokes building, served as the workshop for Stokes Evans during his employment as maintenance man at the Inn. Stokes came to the Inn circa 1958 and was employed by the Deetjens as the wood gatherer and maintenance man until his death in 1978. He remodeled the building to accommodate a room for sleeping and a work shop where he continued to produce frames, signs and other hand crafted wood furnishings for the Inn. Many of the signs and frames made by Stokes can still be seen around the property today and are a part of the Inn’s magic and history.
