Fireplace Room History

The Fireplace Room carries a rich history tied to the Inn’s early years. Completed in 1938, the Hayloft building was Helmuth Deetjen’s second building project and served as housing for Helmuth and Helen before they moved to the Row. This room was the first to be built with a brick fireplace and was later named Fireplace. Later, when Barbara Blake funded an addition to the restaurant, a second room with a fireplace adopted the same name. Today, the original Fireplace room offers a cozy retreat with its charming antiques and wood-burning stove, embodying the rustic elegance and timeless comfort that Deetjen’s is known for.
