Hayloft Hostel History
The Hayloft building was built in 1938 by Helmuth. It was the second building constructed during the Deetjens early expansion of the Inn. In an effort to develop the four acre parcel the couple had purchase only two years earlier, Helmuth continued to build and improve the property. As the Inn grew, the Deetjens moved from the Hayloft building to the Top Antique room upstairs in what is now The Row. Soon after they moved to the new location, the Hayloft building was partitioned off into guest rooms. Today the Hayloft Hostel, with its five rooms and two bathrooms, offers guests a chance to absorb the rich history of the Deetjen’s early years in Castro Canyon.
