Reconstruction Permits Granted
What a remarkable time to be at Deetjen’s. On Christmas Eve 2019, Monterey County issued the necessary permits to rebuild and repair the Deetjen’s units that were damaged and destroyed in the catastrophic winter storms of 2017. Almost 3 years since the trees fell, we are ecstatic to report that we are officially under reconstruction!
Reconstruction of our damaged guest rooms, Stokes & Faraway, is planned in three phases. Phase one will be the cleanup and stability of the remains of Stokes & Faraway. This phase will be complete February 7. During this period you may hear some hammers, drills, and other small noises coming from the southern most structures on the property. Phase 2 will be the repair of the floor, framing of the walls and reconstruction of the roof. During this phase of construction you may hear more tools and hammering, saws, and other equipment; phase two is scheduled to be complete March 31. Phase three of the construction will be the interior finishing and board and bat reconstruction of the exterior. During this phase of construction you may hear repetitive hammering and nailing, some saw work, and some other construction equipment. Construction noise will be confined to 9 am and 5 pm, Monday through Friday.
We can’t begin to thank you enough for your support of Deetjen’s and your flexibility and understanding during this essential time as we march forward with our mission, preserving the Inn for generations to come.
